Pending board approval, Sam Sheldon will become the next head coach for the North Polk High School Volleyball program. Before becoming a Comet in February, Sam became the head volleyball coach at Pella High School in 2023, where she laid a strong foundation for the program’s future success. Before leading Pella, she spent five years at Ankeny High School as an assistant volleyball coach, serving as the varsity assistant coach since 2019. During her time at Ankeny, she was an integral part of five state tournament appearances, three conference championships, and a 2020 5A State Championship.
Previously, Sam served as an assistant volleyball coach at Knoxville High School for two years, contributing to the team that won the South Central Conference Championship in 2017. A graduate of Johnston High School, she also played collegiate volleyball at Coe College.
In addition to coaching, Sam teaches math at Southview Middle School in Ankeny. She is married to Ryan Sheldon, who teaches social studies and coaches wrestling for the Ankeny Hawks. Together, they have two children: a son, Jesse (7), and a daughter, Joey (4).
Welcome to Comet Nation, Coach Sheldon!
