Your voice and your vote matter, and our 5th-grade students proved it! Thanks to their persuasive efforts and a school-wide vote, boneless chicken wings are now officially on the lunch menu!
Dash and Lane, students of Mrs. Spreitzer’s 5th-grade class at Big Creek, wrote a convincing paper as part of their persuasive writing project, making their case: "We have the resources! We already have ranch, celery, and chicken nuggets, so why not add boneless wings too?"
After a December tasting, the vote was clear: YES! On the first day back from break, all elementary students had a chance to enjoy the exciting new menu item.
Additionally, local area schools utilize Heartland AEA Purchasing to procure menu items for breakfast and lunch. Heartland caught wind of this advocacy project and now schools across the metro can purchase boneless wings for their cafeterias, thanks to Dash and Lane!
Lastly, the students who led the charge and our Nutrition Department were featured on WHO 13’s Scholastic Spotlight showcasing this exciting new menu upgrade. Be sure to check out the full story from WHO 13 at the link below.
